What Size Round Over Bit For 3/4 Wood

  1. Whatsouthward a skilful basic roundover bit radius?

Hello, Ig still a relative newbie to routing, although Ive recently done some good routing work on a bookcase that Ichiliad edifice, but Id like to expand my router bit inventory. I dont yet have a roundover bit, and Id prefer not to buy more than 1 roundover bit to begin with. So, what size radius roundover fleck would you recommend every bit a basic one, 1/4 inch radius, 1/2 inch radius, or what? If you were going to buy but one, which radius would you recommend? I'm looking to buy quality, 1/two inch shank bits, and I'm not looking for inexpensive multi-bit sets. Thanks,
    Louis

  2. depends of course

If you are working with cabinets and iii/4 deep confront frames / edges, I think a 1/4" works well - leaves an initially finished edge in the middle.

But if you are working with deeper stock, of class, or want a true radiused edged, so 1/2 I would say.

  3. i/iv" would be my first i. If you lot intend to but ease an border, 1/8" does that well, only one/4" would exist my choice.

I have had good luck with Woodcraft bits, and they sell them for $five each two-3 times per year.

  4. I think equally the others have stated 1/4 is a good starting point. I apply it the most when I think virtually it. I employ it for a lot of stuff, only to knock the edge off jigs and the like.

I take a set of the Woodcraft that accept severed very well and I think when it comes to the point I accept to replace them I would certain like to try one of these from Freud.

  5. Simply now, on another forum, I recommended a one/iv" roundover. It's amazing how often that happens...the same question from different people is posted on different forums.

As for brand, you can't go incorrect with Whiteside router bits. When I accept time, that'southward what I use...always one/ii" shank of course. I say "when I have fourth dimension" because I have to order them. At that place is no local supplier near me.

When I need a router bit "right now" I accept started buying the Freud Diablo make at Home Depot. So far, I'chiliad impressed with the quality simply I even so prefer Whiteside.

  6. For reference; this is an 1/8" radius circular over on three/iv" material with a 1" breadboard prior to sanding.

Take me to the hotel - Luggage gone, oh well . . .

  7. Thanks to all. I'll go with 1/4 inch radius for starters.

  8. Good option. I utilize that chip then often to knock the edges off of a piece that it'southward almost ever setup in my router table.

  9. Just to exist contrary, I'll say three/8" as it gives the added advantage of being able to bullnose 3/four" stock.

    That'south good to know!

  11. Stephen, the simply trouble I institute with three/eight on three/4 is if I have jointed, planed or sanded below iii/4" I have a 3/eight" bit cutting the starting time side. flip it over and now the bearing rides slightly onto the fist bend, causing an uneven bullnose. If the piece is all the same three/4 inch, information technology works with a fence.

Veni Vidi Vendi Vente! I came, I saw, I bought a large coffee!

  12. I keep a 1/4" roundover bit chucked in a laminate trimmer ... use it more than than any other roundover or chamfer flake to take the edge off a piece.
